Fingerprints are encoded directly after being captured, and are sent to a digital biometrics system for verification. A red »flash« indicates that a fingerprint has been successfully captured. It is also secured against electrostatic charges, which sometimes occur when walking on carpet, for example. It recognises dry, moist or rough fingerprints and reliably rejects counterfeits.
